Global warming and sea level rise are increasing the severity of natural disasters including hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes, and tropical storms. After a century of mono-culture farming methods being imposed upon Hawaiians by the Western world, Hawaii now depends on imports to provide ninety percent of its food and energy. Hawaiian farmers and practitioners are revitalizing traditional Hawaiian agroforests. This will help improve food security to become resilient to the changing climate as well as to restore traditional foods and cultural knowledge.
